UC 不應被理解成一張由高到低的校名排名。University of California 是一個由十所校區組成的系統；目前 UC 本科招生入口列出九所校區，UCSF 則集中在研究生及專業健康科學教育。這也是為甚麼「十所 UC」和「九所本科 UC」兩種說法都會出現。UC should not be understood as a single prestige ladder. The University of California system has ten campuses. The undergraduate admissions portal currently lists nine, while UCSF is focused on graduate and professional health-sciences education. That is why both “ten UC campuses” and “nine undergraduate UC campuses” appear in guidance.

先由科目開始，不要由校名開始Start with the subject, not the name

同一個學科在不同校區可能有不同名稱、學院歸屬、先修要求和容量限制。UC 官方提供跨校區 major 搜尋；先確認每個校區是否真的提供你的科目，再研究課程、研究機會和申請選項。The same field may have a different name, school, prerequisite pattern or capacity constraint at each campus. UC provides an official cross-campus major search. Confirm that a campus actually offers your subject before comparing curriculum, research and application options.

真正有用的五欄比較Five comparison columns that matter

  • 科目與選擇：主修、alternate major、轉科規則與課程結構。Subject and choice: major, alternate-major policy, change-of-major rules and curriculum.
  • 申請可行性：你的學歷類別、課程、成績、英語與校區／科目要求。Feasibility: applicant level, coursework, grades, English and campus or major requirements.
  • 學期制度：Berkeley 與 Merced 採 semester，其餘本科校區採 quarter。Academic calendar: Berkeley and Merced use semesters; the other undergraduate campuses use quarters.
  • 地點與完整成本：住宿、交通、保險、國際生費用與返家成本。Location and total cost: housing, transport, insurance, international fees and travel home.
  • 支援與下一步：學術支援、實習、研究、校友與畢業後選項。Support and next step: academic support, placements, research, alumni and post-study options.

九所本科校區：先用地點與制度排除不適合Nine undergraduate campuses: start with setting and calendar

第十所 UCSF 以研究生及專業健康科學教育為主，不在 UC 本科申請入口的九所校區名單內。The tenth campus, UCSF, focuses on graduate and professional health-sciences education and is not in the nine-campus undergraduate application list.

一份申請，多個獨立決定One application, independent campus decisions

申請人使用同一份 UC application 選擇要送往哪些校區，不需要把校區排次序；每個收到申請的校區會獨立評估。國際申請人仍要逐校支付費用，金額與規則應在提交當年再次核對。Applicants use one UC application and select the campuses that should receive it. Campuses are not ranked in order of preference, and each campus reviews the application independently. International applicants pay per campus, so the current amount and rules should be checked in the year of submission.

ASIDU 建議的第一步ASIDU's recommended first step

先建立一張九所本科校區比較表，只留下真正提供目標科目、符合家庭成本上限、而且城市與學習節奏可接受的校區。之後才討論申請組合，而不是把九所全部視為同一個選項。Build a nine-campus undergraduate comparison sheet first. Keep only campuses that offer the target subject, fit the family cost ceiling and provide an acceptable city and academic rhythm. Then design the application mix instead of treating all nine as one option.
